5 Ways to Eliminate Holiday Chaos!

  • Plan ahead.  Nothing can save more time than a little advance planning and list making.  Even if you aren’t a list maker – it will help you this time of year.  Lists can help you with:
  • Gift giving and managing your budget.  This list can also help you strategize on the stores you need to shop at, making the most of your time.
  • Baking.  Make a list of the sweet treats you plan to make and then shop from your cupboards and see what you already have.  What you still need goes on the list for the store.
  • Holiday dinners.  Plan in advance what you will prepare or ask others to bring to the gathering.  Shop for the ingredients you need after seeing what you have on hand.
  •  Order postage online from the Post Office.
  • Schedule a package pickup from the Post Office so you can avoid the long lines.
  • Gather all of your holiday card supplies - such as cards, envelopes, stamps, return address labels, pens, photos and the holiday letter.  Write a few each day and drop in the mail as you complete them.  No list?  Start one in an Excel document that you can later merge to address labels or import to a contact database, such as Outlook.  You’d be surprised how much you can do in ten to twenty minute blocks of time:
    • Review your card list, or begin a new one.
    • Create your return address labels and affix.
    • Stamp all of your cards.
    • Create your mailing labels and affix.
    • Find your favorite photo(s) to upload to a card making site, such as Minted or Tiny Prints – two of my favorites!  Some sites, such as Minted will also address your cards for you with a list you upload. 
  • Give services instead of stuff.  I love to give gifts to family and friends for things I know they need or want, so I don’t add any clutter to their homes!  Our family loves to receive gift cards to their favorite stores.  But, you can also create gift certificates for services with your loved ones for:
    • A day of your time, or several hours to help organize a room in their home
    • An evening of babysitting
    • A trip together to get a mani and pedi.
    • For family members that are digitally challenged, sit with them to show them how to download photos from their phone or teach them how to make a photo album online – or better yet, make one for them!
    • A gift certificate to have their home cleaned.
    • An evening out; such as a gift certificate to a restaurant or dinner and a movie.
    • Tickets to a play or musical.

  • Create the perfect mailing labels for your cards – just e-mail us your list and we will create beautiful printed labels and mail them back to you to affix on your cards.
  • Create your mailing list by accessing your computer remotely to help you assemble a list or create a group in your Outlook you can use year after year.
